Sandai has very aesthetic looking food and presentation is visually stunning, but for taste was nothing to write home about I got the nasi lemak and chicken sandwich. The fried chicken was good. Sambal was ok but the portion was soo small and extra sambal cost 5$! They were also very stingy with the toppings like the fried anchovies. Service was very poor and we were not attended to for up to 20 mins. For a good nasi lemak that doesn't hurt your wallet go to Rasa Rasa or Ipoh garden instead. The restraunt location is great and area in Walnut Creek is nice for a stroll.

I debated between a 2 or a 3, but went with a 3 because of the friendly staff. We made a reservation for a brunch on a Sunday. We didn't realize the farmers market and outdoor market were going on at the same time so parking was a challenge. When I called, they were very understanding and told me not to worry at all. As soon as we sat, we were informed that none of the chicken dishes, including the fried chicken sandwich and the side order were available. It was a good 1/3rd of their menu. Bummer because we were all really looking forward to trying the chicken and waffles. We all ordered the kopi avocado and a pitcher of the pineapple mimosa. I really enjoyed the creaminess of the coffee, and the mimosa was fine. We then started with the Birds nest roti chanaj and the green shakahuka. Both dishes were good and really flavorful, especially the chickpeas (side that came with the roti). The toast that came with the shakshuka was partly burnt, however. For our main entree, we ordered the burger, dengdeng sando, and the nasi goreng set with an extra prawn since there were 4 of us. About 15 minutes after we placed the order, we were then informed that they were also out of the deng

Had brunch here last weekend and wow, our taste buds were definitely happy not only with tasting something different but with how delicious it was! We ordered the Nasi Lemak which was fried chicken with blue pea coconut rice and egg. It came with fried anchovies, roasted peanuts, etc which you mix with the blue rice which leveled it up. We also got the Seafood Mee Goreng which was egg noodles with assorted seafood. The drinks we ordered - an iced ginger milk tea and a jackfruit slushie - were perfect as well. This will be top of mind to revisit when we're at the Walnut Creek area!

This place is okay. Probably would not dine again. I think it would be considered more upscale Indonesian food but the flavor is slightly lacking. The food overall has the promise of being authentic but just falls short. That's not to say it wasn't good, it just wasn't what I was expecting. They do however make this clear in some of their materials that it is inspired or fusion with North Cal flavors. The service started off well and then was terrible. Never saw our waitress. Never got refills on water. Other wait staff avoided eye contact but glanced at the empty carafe on the table without grabbing to refill or asking. For the atmosphere of this place, there should have been a lot more attention to detail, especially seeing it wasn't super busy. I'm always lenient having been in food service, but I couldn't stand behind this experience. If I came back, it would probably be to try the coffee and pastries.

I had dinner with a friend who is vegetarian and those options did not disappoint. The highlights for us were the beautiful gado gado salad and the garlic sauce tofu dish. For non-vegetarians, I recommend anything with the beef rendang. I’ve had it in a panini and in a pastry. Both scrumptious! This is one of my favorite places to eat at in downtown Walnut Creek. I also recommend their Kopi Bar coffee sampler.
